What is Supervision and my role as a Supervisor?
Clinical supervision is an ongoing professional working relationship, in which an experienced practitioner (the supervisor), oversees the clinical work of a counsellor (supervisee) to support their development, ensure client safety, and maintain ethical standards. The core functions of Supervision are as follows:
- Educational — developing the supervisee's skills or refining therapeutic interventions, and theoretical understanding
- Supportive — providing a reflective and safe space to process the emotional demands of client work and reduce burnout
- Administrative — ensuring adherence to ethical codes, compliance of legal requirements, and organisational policies
- Reflective Practice — Regularly reviewing, analysing and discussing client caseloads
- Ethical Review — Discussing ethical dilemmas to ensure compliance of professional codes of conduct.
My role as a supervisor, will be to work in a collaborative way with the supervisee, offering the safe and confidential space required to encourage an open and honest working alliance, without the fear of criticism or judgement. I will work in a creative, consultative, restorative and supportive manner. I intend for my work to help facilitate the supervisee’s practice as a professional counsellor by nurturing, respectfully challenging and also developing the supervisee’s own internal supervisor.
I offer supervision in accordance with the NCPS and their ethical framework and practice from an Integrative model. I can offer supervision to counsellor's working with adults and couples, including trainee counsellor's. I work both face to face and online.
I believe that finding the 'right' supervisor for you, is as important as when a client needs to find the 'right' counsellor for them. Please contact me further for an initial conversation to discuss whether I may be the right supervisor for you.
